For our horror research we needed to produce edible fake blood. The blood had to be edible because actors needed to be able to have this in their mouth to spit it out when needed to add to the gore factor of our opening title sequence. It was important that our recipe tasted good as well as looked the part for the best possible results when put into action in our OTS. We did our research across a wide range of websites on the internet and settled with a recipe consisting of red food colouring, cornflour, water and golden syrup. The cornflour was used as a thickener, the red food colouring was used to try to perfect the colour, the water was used to make more quantity of the blood and thin the mixture a bit and finally in theory we would have used the golden syrup to thicken and also add to the taste of our gruesome concoction, but couldnt get hold of the ingredient on the day.
We, also that day, learnt how to make washable blood that is easy to clean but could also be mass produced to smother a whole set in the blood, in testing we found this mixture to be the most effective because it was very easy and quick to make. this recipe consisted of just cheap, green washing up liquid and a small amount of red food colouring stirred together which made the best colour and looks incredibly realistic on camera.
In our recipe we used cornflour, water and food colouring. Although it was technically edible it didn't taste nice and needed more development to successfully look realistic and taste nicer for this to be high quality and production level. Our blood was second best in the way it looked but the worst in edibility, Strange Films was the best looking blood on camera as it was very realistic and sinister pictures wasnt red enough and didn't look as believable on camera as you can see near the end of our video.
