All directors of horror films have thought about lighting. Some theories work well with this such as Wes Cravens theory of being at home is scarier as you think you are in a safe environment. This means the place will be well lit and then able to be more scary if the lights cut off. Clover would prefer it to be dark throughout, such as in a dark club, because it would be a scarier atmosphere from the start.
Lighting is important in every film. It can give a range of effects and set atmospheres as well as the scene. For productions in a theatre, lights such as Par 64 and Par 64 Floorcans and Fresnels which would be used to create atmosphere. In films, they may have large portable ones on set that can be moved around otherwise small ones which are similar to Par 64's on a long tripod-style pod. Lights can have Gels put on them. Gels are simply pieces of plastic with a tint of colour so that the light that comes out of it isn't just a normal light colour. This can be used well in films for instance a yellow and an orange for around a fire. A barn door is easily attached on certain lights. With these, you can control where the light goes and stop it from going off the set so that only the things you want to be lit are in the light. the lighting was very important for our OTS trailer because we needed the audience to see what was going on and the time of day this was more based on.
The lighting for the OTS was all based from the time of day which was around 9:00am-3:00pm where there was plenty of light coming in making it much easier to see what was going on and to make it more realistic because that would be the time of day where students would be at school. The lighting needed to go well with the camera shots to make sure that it would look good. The main problem we had were reflections where you were able to see the camera and the person controlling it so we had to keep trying out different things to make sure that the audience wouldn't be able to notice it.

This picture is from the Colombine Shooting in America. We were influenced by the lighting as is was a bright sunny day when all the students were at school.
