Google Trends is a extension of Google, which analyses and records each time a keyword is searched in the Google search bar, this helps understand what topics are currently trending on the internet. These searches are recorded and stored by topic, location, region, date and even time of day! Google Trends would be helpful in order to find if their is a high trend, or a gap in trends when searching for School Shootings in the UK.
As you can see from the graph to the left, when 'Horror films' is brought up on Google Trends, you can see that horror films are very popular in October, obviously fue to the fact that October is the month of Halloween. So there is very consistent trend throughout the trend graph. This gives us and idea as to when to release our film to the public, as releasing it in October may not be the best idea as we wont be able to compete with other film makers. So we may have to release it some other time in the year.
Contrary to the first graph, when searching "school shootings" on a UK based search, there are very few events or trends which link to this topic. We used this to our advantage when filming our OTS, as there isn't any trend or popularity involved with UK school shootings, this may mean that audiences across the UK may highly anticipate a film of this genre.
